National Treasures are government-designated tangible cultural properties selected as peerless treasures of the Japanese people on the basis of their importance to world culture. The National Treasure Medals comprise a series of medals on the theme of precious national treasures and their attendant cultural properties. For this series we have chosen Akasaka Palace. The Akasaka Palace has received a large number of distinguished guests, such as monarchs, presidents or prime ministers, and been used as a venue for international conferences, including summit meetings, as well.

Obverse:The design shows the motif of the National Treasure of the State Guest House Akasaka Palace depicted in relief against the ceiling painting of the Asahi no Ma in the background.

Reverse:The design features the motif of the celestial globe and sacred bird that decorates the roof of the State Guest House against a background of the checkerboard pattern of the entrance hall floor, with the characters 迎賓館(Geihinkan, "State Guest House") highlighted by using the frosting finish processing technique*.
