The International Coin Design Competition (ICDC), an annual competition, to which 37 works from 8 countries for “GENERAL category”, and 373 works from 3 countries for “STUDENT category”, has been held by the Japan Mint since 1998, to encourage creativity and enhance the artistry of coin designs.
The design of the above medal was awarded the prize for Most Excellent Work in the International Coin Design Competition 2020. It was designed under the theme of “From the end of the crisis to the future of hope”; by Mr. NAKATA Shinichi, who is from Japan.
Obverse: Amabie, a legendary supernatural spirit believed to ward off plagues, virus and the inscription “Terminate COVID-19 Amabie.”
Reverse: The inscriptions “The beginning of the new world 2020” and “Miracle, Wisdom, Progress, Courage, Love, Self-reflection, Mercy, Justice.”
