World Heritage Coin Sets 7. Hiroshima Peace Memorial

The Genbaku Dome, located inside Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima is owned and managed by the City of Hiroshima. Originally it was built as a Hiroshima Prefectural Commercial Exhibition Hall (later renamed "Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall") in order to promote the industry of Hiroshima prefecture in 1915.Following the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, the Hall eventurally came to be called Genbaku Dome, after the domed form of the skeletal remains of the building’s vaulted roof. Serving as a graphic depiction of the tragedy of the first employment of nuclear weapons in human history, Genbaku Dome, is a symbol of the appeal to the world for permanent peace and the elimination of nuclear weapons on earth.
