"50th Anniversary of the First Commemorative Coin" 2014 Proof Coin Set

50th Anniversary of the First Commemorative Coin 2014 Proof Coin Set

The first commemorative coins issued in Japan were those produced for the Tokyo Olympics in 1964 (Showa 39), 50 years ago this year (2014).
During this time, a wide variety of commemorative coins have been issued as national commemorative occasions, and this coin set features designs from several of these commemorative coins. We hope they will call to mind many memories of the events they commemorate.
It should be emphasized that this coin set include a special medal, which replicates the design of the first commemorative coin by using cutting-edge iridescent color processing technology.

*The above pictures shows examples of two different displays. This product includes only one coin set with one medal. Also, they are only for illustrative purpose and the actual product may differ.

A special silver medal inspired by the “first commemorative coin”
The obverse shows Mt. Fuji and cherry blossom, depicted on the 1,000 yen silver coin issued to mark the Tokyo Olympics, using iridescent color processing technology.
The reverse refers to the design on the reverse of the same commemorative coin through the depiction of elements including a cherry blossom motif and lettering. Microfabrication technology has been used to engrave the number “50,” denoting the 50th anniversary, below which the Japanese characters for “Showa 39” (1964) and “Heisei 26” (2014) are alternately visible and invisible from different angles as a result of the use of latent image technology.
*1964 Tokyo Olympic Games 1,000-yen commemorative coin is not included in this product.
