| Blossom of the Year | "FUGENZO" Fugenzo is the name of a well-known type of cherry blossom found in the Kyoto area since the Muromachi Era. The two pistils on each flower develop into leafy structures with curved tips that stick out from the flowers. These resemble an elephant's trunk, giving the blossoms their name: Fugenzo is the elephant (zo in Japanese) on which the bodhisattva Samantabhadra (Fugen Bosatsu in Japanese) rides. The blossoms have between 20 and 40 petals, and change color from pink to white. ![]() |
