This set is to celebrate the Cherry Blossom Viewing Festival.
Since the Japan Mint has many kinds of cherry trees in our Mint premises, we hold the Cherry Blossom Viewing Festival every April. People admire the beauty of flowers passing through a cherry blossom tunnel. We welcome many guests not only from our country but also from various overseas countries.
The coin set includes:
"FUGENZO"
Fugenzo is the name of a well-known type of cherry blossom found in the Kyoto area since the Muromachi Era. The two pistils on each flower develop into leafy structures with curved tips that stick out from the flowers. These resemble an elephantfs trunk, giving the blossoms their name: Fugenzo is the elephant (zo in Japanese) on which the bodhisattva Samantabhadra (Fugen Bosatsu in Japanese) rides. The blossoms have between 20 and 40 petals, and change color from pink to white.
